The company
Living Souls is an independent bottler based in Glasgow, founded in 2024 by three experienced whisky experts. They are Calum Leslie, former Head of Innovation at the Loch Lomond Group, Jamie Williamson, founder of UK wholesaler Kilninian Spirits and long-time employee at Douglas Laing, and John Torrance, who has over 20 years' experience in the industry, including at Diageo and Tullibardine. The team focuses on hand-picked bottlings that combine quality and character. The aim of Living Souls is to create exceptional whiskies through careful cask selection and innovative maturation methods. For their debut, they created a total of four small batch bottlings. Natural colour, no chill filtration and authentic flavour profiles are at the heart of the company's philosophy.
The range
To kick things off, Living Souls presented four selected bottlings that reflect different facets of the whisky world.
The Living Souls Solera System 15 year old, a blended Scotch whisky, matures in a solera system and combines Glenrothes malt from sherry casks with North British grain from bourbon and sherry casks, creating a harmonious flavour profile.
A special rarity is the Living Souls Refill Sherry Butt 40 Years, a blended Scotch whisky whose components have been maturing together in refill sherry butts since 1998, developing a deep complexity with fruity and woody flavours.
For lovers of peaty whiskies, Living Souls offers the Kildalton Islay Malt 19 year old, a teaspooned whisky from a renowned Islay distillery, which impresses with its intense smoke, fruity and spicy notes.
The range is complemented by a Ledaig/Tobermory Living Souls 18 year old, which combines both peated and unpeated distillates from the Tobermory Distillery and offers a balanced interplay between smoke and fruity sweetness.
