Living Cask
The personal blend from leftover bottles!
Horst Lüning presents his Living Cask Whisky - a fascinating blended whisky created from the leftovers of his numerous tastings over the last six to nine months. This unusual concept is already regularly used in the whisky industry and is reminiscent of the solera process traditionally used in the production of sherry and rum. Find out how you can make your own living cask.
Concept and production of a Living Cask
With a living cask, the leftovers from a tasting or leftover bottles are filled into a bottle. The result is a "living" bottle. It can only be poured or drunk again and again.
The result is a process of "marrying" in which different whiskies - mainly Scottish single malts, supplemented by American, Irish and international varieties - are "married" to each other over a longer period of time.

Living Cask by Horst Lüning - Aroma, flavour and character
Alcohol content: The Living Cask Whisky has an alcohol content of around 41 to 42% by volume, so not too strong
Aroma: With a subtle hint of smoke - well below 10 ppm - it presents a conglomerate of flavours reminiscent of a balanced blend of spices.
Flavour: Initially, the whisky surprises with an astonishing rusticity, followed by a light sweetness and intense spiciness. A clear influence of oak and a fine bitterness round off the flavour experience.
Finish: The first impression is initially rather flat, but a stronger, spicy note prevails in the finish.
