Wilson & Morgan

The company

Wilson & Morgan is an independent bottler from Italy, based in Treviso (northern Italy). The company was founded in 1992 by Fabio Rossi and is now one of the most renowned independent bottlers in Europe. The family's roots in the spirits trade go back much further: Fabio's father imported whisky to Italy back in the 1960s - at a time when single malt was still a marginal phenomenon outside Scotland.

Wilson & Morgan has focussed on high-quality Scotch whiskies since the beginning. Fabio Rossi regularly travels to Scotland and selects casks directly on site. Each cask is tasted at regular intervals - at least every six months - to determine the optimum ageing time. Rossi's working method earned him the nickname "Whisky Tailor" from whisky author Michael Jackson - in recognition of his precise cask work and his sense of balance. The whisky is always bottled without colouring or chill-filtration, often at a higher alcohol strength, around 100 UK proof (approx. 57% vol.).

In the beginning, he worked closely with the traditional Scottish bottler Cadenhead's and selected exceptional casks from renowned distilleries such as Ardbeg, Springbank, Bunnahabhain, Macallan, Caol Ila and Port Ellen. Whiskies from Islay in particular characterised the style of Wilson & Morgan early on.

The range

Wilson & Morgan's range focuses primarily on Scottish single malt whiskies, supplemented by selected single grains and occasional international bottlings. Typical bottle ages are between 10 and 30 years, which clearly emphasise the character of the distillery.

A key feature is the targeted use of maturation. Wilson & Morgan is one of the early adopters of Marsala, Armagnac, rum and high-quality wine casks - it is important not to mask the origin of the whisky.

The bottlings are usually released as limited single casks or small batches and are aimed at experienced connoisseurs.
