The Danish distillery makes a virtue of necessity and offers Do-It-Yourself packages

 

The Danish Stauning Distillery faces problems like many other companies at the moment do: supply chain problems are causing production delays. Strictly speaking, however, the latest problem is not one of whisky production, but of bottling: The typical coated and artistically designed bottles of Stauning Rye, Smoke and Kaos could not be obtained in the required numbers.

The Danish team, which is known for its innovative ideas, found a solution to this problem: without further ado, they filled the whisky in 37,000 neutral clear glass bottles and created a "Do-It-Yourself-Set", which is delivered with each bottle and offers the buyer the possibility to individually label and inscribe his Stauning whisky bottle himself.

Innovative idea to solve problems

"We spent a lot of time designing our black and gold Stauning Whisky bottle. During the design process, there were many edits, a few tears, and more happy accidents than we care to admit. This all led to a final design that we love! But thanks to supply issues, we are unable to make these bottles for a while. We’re not going to lie… it sucks!", can be read on the distillery's website.

"But in Stauning, when facing challenges, we are hell-bent on creating something even better to solve the problem. Like the time we invented the Stauning malt turners, so we could continue to floor malt our local Danish grains at the distillery, without breaking our backs"

Original design picks up on Stauning distillery's history

The 2020 redesign of the original bottles depict the history of Stauning Distillery on Ringkøbing Fjord. The illustrations are by Danish artist Asbjørn Staunstrup Lund. A slanted coating in matt black is intended to recall the typical angles of the distillery building.

The "naked" 37,000 Do-It-Yourself bottles make up about one fifth of the bottles intended for sale this year, we learn from a press release by the German importer Kirsch Import. They are available for Stauning's three core bottlings, Stauning Rye, Stauning Smoke and Stauning Kaos.
