Compass Box Celestial: Fourth edition of the Extinct Blends released

A smoky whisky completes the quartet

 

The independent bottler Compass Box presents Celestial , the fourth and final bottling in the Extinct Blends Quartet. While the previous bottling, the Compass Box Metropolis, was dedicated to vibrant metropolises, the Celestial points to higher realms in the sky.

The four whiskies in the series are reinterpretations of four popular blended Scotches from the past. Whisky maker James Saxon, the new face of the company following the recent departure of Compass Box founder John Glaser, and his team were inspired by a whisky from the 1960s when creating this bottling, according to the Kirsch Import`s press release.

The Blended Scotch is the most complex and also the peatiest whisky of the quartet. Heavy campfire and coastal smoke from Ardbeg and Caol Ila meet a gingery fullness, vanilla, grilled apples and cooked tropical fruit, including from the Glen Elgin, Pulteney and Port Dundas distilleries can be expected according to the press release.

Compass Box works very transparently and also discloses the exact composition of the batch, which totalled 5,532 bottles:

  • Blended Scotch Parcel (18.2%)
  • Ardbeg Single Malt (16.9%)
  • Port Dundas Single Grain (15.5%)
  • Cameronbridge Single Grain (13.2%)
  • Pulteney Single Malt (14.8%)
  • Caol Ila Single Malt (11.5%)
  • Highland Malt Blend (4.5%)
  • Glen Elgin Single Malt (3.3%)
  • Blended Malt Parcel (2.1%)

The Compass Box Celestial, which has an RRP of €339.90 for Germany, was bottled without chill-filtering and in natural colour with an alcohol content of 50% vol. It already enriches the Compass Box portfolio in the Whisky.de online shop.
