Macallan presents Folio 7

The whisky is the seventh edition of the Archival Series

Since 2015, Macallan has been releasing limited edition bottlings in the Archival Series, dedicated to the distillery's print and on-screen advertising campaigns of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. In the images, drawings and stories associated with these advertising campaigns, the development and growth of Macallan Distillery and the Macallan whisky brand can be traced over the decades, explains the press release for the currently announced Macallan Folio 7 of the Archival Series.

A 1980s advertising campaign in view

Commenting on the edition, Euan Kennedy, Lead Whisky Maker at The Macallan, says: “Crafted to pay tribute to the magic and curiosity of The Boffins Baffled advert of the 1980s, Folio 7 is a captivating single malt whisky which truly reflects the iconic status of the artwork it celebrates. Offering a fruity nose of apple and pear, raisins, milk chocolate and orange peel then give way to vanilla and baked fruits on the palate, leaving a long, creamy finish with warm spices. With its interesting flavours, Folio 7 offers a unique way to experience The Macallan and one of its most unforgettable advertising campaigns from decades past.”

The cartoon, which was used to design the Boffin Baffled adverts in the 1980s, shows scientists grappling with the question of why whisky matures so brilliantly in sherry casks. And of course this also includes one or two smell and taste self-experiments. Anyone interested in the Macallan Folio 7 can register for a ballot on the Macallan website. Then you might get the chance to purchase one of the single malts. 350 pounds will be asked for the bottling with 43% vol, which according to the press release will also be available later at some travel retail dealers.
