The unmatured spirit of the new Kingsbarns Distillery is on sale in the visitor center

Production at Kingsbarns Distillery started soon after the official opening on 30 November 2014. We knew we’ll have to wait for three years until the first whisky of this distillery of the Wemyss family near the Scottish golf capitol St. Andrews will be bottled. There’s still no doubt about that but Kingsbarns Distillery decided to give a little foretaste of what will come: the unmatured new make is available in the visitor center of the distillery and sold under the name “Spirit Drink”.

Kingsbarns Spirit Drink only available on-site at the distillery

The spirit has 63,5% ABV to offer and therefor is presented with an alcoholic strength with which the csks are probably filled, too. It is sold on site at a price of £14.95 per 20 cl bottle. It’s not yet known when and where the new make will be available without travelling to Kingsbarns Distillery In the official press release the manager of Kingsbarns Distillery, Peter Holroyd, calls it an elegant, fruity and floral spirit. He recommends to add some water so that the fruity aromas can develop. Kingsbarns works with two pot stills made by Forsyths of Rothes. Barley that is grown in Five is the basis for the whisky production in Kingsbarns Distillery who fills 24 casks per week according to the distillery’s homepage.

Wemyss Malts very successful

Building the Kingsbarn Distillery was not breaking new ground for the Wemyss family because they have been independent bottler and blender for a very long time. In our whisky database you’ll find a lot of releases of Wemyss Malts as for example a 22 year old Aultmore. Recently Wemyss released an edition of three 12 year old blended malts: Spice King, The Hive and Peat Chimney.
