Italian distillery Puni releases first whisky
With the Malts Puni Alba and Puni Nova Italy is now an official whisky producing country
The distillery Puni is not unknown among whisky fans even if there hasn’ been Puni Whisky on the market up to now. That’s because releases called Puni Alba have been available for time time, but because of the short time of maturation this spirit hasn’t officially been whisky yet. Now that has changed: two malts are available now, called Puni Alba and Puni Nova.
Two batches of each Puni Malt released
The two Puni Malts are presented in very stylish bottles. Everyone who knows the distillery building will agree that Style is very important for Puni: the unsual cube that hosts distillery and visitor center is an architectural highlight. Five years ago the distillery was founded in Glurns/Vinschgau and 2012 started in traditional Scottish pot stills. There were two baches releases of both Malts Puni Alba and Puni Nova. Batch 1 was limited on 977 bottles each and the price was nearly twice as high as a bottle of batch 2.
Puni Nova and Puni Alb – an unlikely couple
The malt Puni Nova was matured in American ex-bourbon casks before it was finished in French oak. The official tasting notes promise notes of honey, bananas and vanilla.
The malt Puni Alba (which carries on the name of the previously released younger spirit) developed its aromas in two very different casks: It spent more than two years in ex-marsala casks and was then filled into casks that before buried Scottish whisky from Islay. Notes of candy and exotic fruits are joined by smoky ones Puni announces.
