After 12 years of production many casks are waiting in the warehouse to be bottled. Now a distribution partner was presented

For many years the whisky world has been waiting for the release of the first Daftmill Single Malt Whisky. The oldest whisky that is sleeping in the warehouses of the farm distillery in Fife should be at least 12 years now, because Francis and Ian Cuthbert started whisky production in 2005. Asked when the first Daftmill whisky would be ready they always just repeated: “When it’s ready!”

Barry Bros & Rudd will be distributors of Daftmill’s whisky

Now news is being spread that Berry Bros & Rudd will be distribution Daftmill Single Malt Whisky and speculations started about a coming first bottling of the Lowland label. Looks like the whisky might really be ready… Of course the whisky won’t be released in big amounts because with its annualy production of about 100 casks Daftmill is one of the smallest whisky producers in Scotland. That’s also due to the fact that Daftmill is a real farm distillery: Francis Cuthbert primarily is a farmer and only if the work on the farm allows spending some time with other things he cares for the distillery and the whisky, whisky means two months in summer and two in winter times.

An old mill houses the distillery

he Cuthbert family has been running this farm near Cupar for six generations. The distillery is situated in the old mill, a listed building, side by side with the farmhouse and barn and stable. The production capacity of the distillery with its 2.000 liter pot stills would allow a produce much more whisky than it is done so far. But first the quality of the Daftmill Whisky will have to prove that the long waiting period was worth it. So let’s look forward for the first Daftmill Single Malt Whisky to leave the warehouse and be bottled.
