£5 mio invested to double production

Two years after works for the expansion of Speyburn Distillery had started all is finished now. The company Inver House Distillers invested £5 mio to double the annual production capacity of Speyburn from about 1.8 mio liters to 4 mio liters now. The distillery is the one with the biggest production volume in the company’s portfolio which also includes Pulteney, Balblair, Knockdhu and Balmenach.

Cautious modernization of the traditional buildings

Speyburn Distillery is situated very picturesquely in a small valley near Rothes and because of its pretty appearance always is a very popular subject for photos. So modernization and expansion had to be handled very carefully to ensure the distillery keeps its traditional charm. The buildings have been cautiously renovated and equipped with energy-saving technics. A new mash tun was installed. The existing 4 wooden wash backs of Douglas fir were supplemented by 15 new stainless steel ones. A third pot still was added to the previous two so that Speyburn now uses a big wash still and two small spirit stills.

Speyburn reports increasing sales figures

The expansion enables Inver House Distillers to advance the promoting of the label Speyburn. In 2015 they reported an increasing demand of 49.5% regarding volumes and 28% regarding value. There are three core releases available: The Speyburn 10 year old, the Speyburn Bradan Orach without age statement and the Speyburn Arranta Cask, exclusively bottled for the US-market and without age statement as well. But independent bottlers also use to release Speyburn Whisky from time to time.
