Mixology votes newcomer from New York for Spirit of the Year

Every year a big gala the evening before the Bar Convent Berlin is the setting for the announcement of the Mixology Bar Awards’ winners. During several months the list of the nominees in the categories as Bar of the Year, Host of the Year or Spirit of the Year has shrunken until just 5 candidates remained.

Hudson Baby Bourbon is 100% corn

The Hudson Baby Bourbon of Tuthilltown Spirits prevailed against Ferdinand’s Quince Gin, Jinzu Gin, Pontica Vermouth and Tanqueray Old Tom Gin and gained the victory last week. Along with the founders Ralph Erenzo and Brian Lee the company of Campari as the distributer of Hudson Whiskey is very happy about this award. Small amounts of whiskey, tenderly handcrafted in the micro distillery from 100 % corn and matured in small 3 gallons barrels for only 3 months - the Hudson Baby Bourbon is a whiskey that is unique in many ways regarding the many booming craft distilleries in America.

An American dream

When Enzo and Lee started their project Tuthilltown Distillery 2004 in the Hudson Valley in the State of New York they wouldn’t have dreamed of such a big success. They both were absolute beginners without any experiences in whiskey production, but they were ambitious, set their hands to the task, looked over the shoulders of many distillers and learnt and tried out. It was a bit like living the American dream which became true with the success of their Hudson Baby Bourbon. It gained 4 gold medals at the Craft Spirits International Competition, but this is just one of about 50 awards the bourbon can adorn with. And now the title Spirit of the Year of the Mixology Bar Awards was added. If you want to learn more about Hudson Baby Bourbon you should watch our tasting video.
