Kilmory and Corriecravie Edition represent different flavour profiles

In autumn 2022, the young Lagg Distillery released their first whisky. The Lagg Inaugural Release was available in small batches. Now the first single malts of the core range have been presented.

Two whiskies made from peated malt

First, we can look forward to the Lagg Single Malt Kilmory Edition. Like all whiskies from Lagg Distillery on the Isle of Arran, it is a smoky single malt, which is meant to resemble the original style on the island at the time of the illegal distilleries, explains a press release. The whisky for the Kilmory Edition is matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks and bottled without chill filtration in natural colour at 46% ABV. It takes its name from the community in which the village of Lagg is incorporated, the home of the Lagg Distillery.

For the Corriecravie Edition, after maturing in bourbon casks, the whisky was transferred to Oloroso sherry casks of Miguel Martin / Jerez for a 6-month finish. It is also bottled without chill filtration and in natural colour, but has 55% ABV to offer. The small hamlet of Corriecravie lies to the northwest of Lagg and offers fantastic views over the south coast of the Isle of Arran. Corriecravie was once home to a number of illicit distilleries, according to the press release, and not far from there is the former fortress of Torr a' Chaisteil Dun, also known as Castle Hill.

Capturing the character of the land

Lagg Distillery Manager Graham Omand said of these whiskies: ""These Single Malts are really rooted in the southside of Arran and their aromatic, peated character embodies the earthiness of the whiskies that would have been among the first to have been distilled on Arran hundreds of years ago. Today, our Lagg Single Malts represent the spirit and respect for our land that the people here can't wait to share with the wider world.""

The Lagg Kilmory Edition will be available from May 2023, with the Corriecravie following in June 2023. On the Lagg Distillery homepage, RRP of £49.99 for the Kilmory and £64.99 for the Corriecravie are published.
