Our company has been on the market since 15 June 1993!
At that time still called The Whisky Store, the company was founded in Seeshaupt on Lake Starnberg.
The owner Theresia Lüning and her husband Horst Lüning discovered their love of single malt whisky on a trip to Scotland in 1990. Over the next few years, they travelled to Scotland, the USA and Canada and visited various whisky distilleries. These experiences gave rise to the mail-order company Whisky.de. The company is a family business, which was taken over by their son Benedikt Lüning in 2016.
It all started with whisky
The largest sales driver is high-quality single malt Scotch whisky as well as bourbon and Irish whiskey. International whiskies, gins and, since 2023, rums complete the range. There are also glasses, water jugs and other accessories.
Connoisseurs and collectors will find a wide range of products at Whisky.de that is always up to date. News and special offers as well as rarities and extensive information keep you up to date. A visit to our shop is always worthwhile and on our information pages, inquisitive minds can read all about whisky, gin and rum.
The Whisky.de bottle database contains extensive information on distilleries with around 30,000 entries. With over 45 million views of the YouTube video blog, those interested will find a wealth of knowledge. The actively moderated Whisky.de community and forum is home to 40,000 members who exchange ideas and talk shop about whisky.
A free electronic whisky book for German-speaking countries has already been downloaded over a million times since its first edition in 2003. The shop system with hundreds of illustrated articles and hundreds of thousands of reviews rounds off the website commercially. There is also an extensive colour catalogue for German-speaking countries.
Our strengths are our wide range of products at good prices, our up-to-dateness and our fast, excellent customer service.
A big step for our company was the acquisition of the domain Whisky.com in 2013.
We have been able to offer you all of this over the last few decades because we have grown steadily! Starting with one employee, we now have 25 people working in the Whisky.de office. We cover all departments ourselves: purchasing, sales, accounting, IT and marketing. Packaging and despatch are outsourced. The premises have been extended several times to provide more space for the employees and the whisky.
At the same time, Whisky.de opened up new markets and now supplies not only Germany but also Austria, the Netherlands and, since April 2024, Belgium.
Whisky.de was one of the first to be represented on the Internet in 1994 with what is probably the largest whisky homepage. Since 2014, we have also been offering our products on the English-language website Whisky.com. In 2023 we celebrated our 30th company anniversary!
