The Glenlivet distillery

The Glenlivet distillery is one of the most famous Scotch distilleries there are. Translated from the Galic it means "Valley of the Livet".

Glenlivet was founded by George Smith. He and his distillery quickly got the reputation of distilling the smoothest whisky there was in the whole Empire.

The smoothness of a whisky manly depends on the distillation and the maturation. Other factors like the climate, the malt and the water also have influence to the taste, but distillation and maturation are the heart of a good whisky.

The shape of the pot stills is one of the most important influences of the distillation. The Glenfiddich pot stills were designed by George Smith to be in a lantern shape. And they still continue to be in the same shape as they were in the founding days.
