Springbank 15 Years
This new Springbank expression was almost sold out shortly after it had been launched. The high percentage of sherry casks conjures up memories of the old bottlings.

Taste: Oily and viscous textured - without water this is mostly peaty and the sherry cask influence seems not as prominent in newer bottlings. Flavours of peppermint, rubber, peat smoke on arrival, and preserved/salted lemon, clove, faint oak and earthiness mid palate. With the addition of a dash of water this whisky becomes more juicy and mouth watering and subtleties shine through the peated influence - fruity and white wine flavour characteristics appear with added water.
Finish: Mid-long finish - not too intense, lingers pleasantly enough.
Comment: I bought this as I was led on to believe this was more of a sherry-styled Springbank. The sherry influence in this whisky is not all that prominent (at least in newer bottlings) and the peat smoke was a bit much for me personally. If you are not a fan of smoky whisky then this may be a bit much. Then again, if you like peated whiskies, this does transform with the addition of water and does make a nice experimental dram. I like the fact that Springbank does not colour their whisky, or use chill-filtration. Up the impact a quality sherry cask influence and limit the influence of the peat. This will make this whisky much more interesting in my opinion. - 80/100 for me.
