Very interesting nose, just a touch of peat smoke and lemon oil, maybe a bit of pineapple. Maltiness and some marine saltiness like I would normally associate with Old Pulteney. Some light oakiness in the background.
Taste:
Initially sweet. Lemon citrus flavour, transitions into slight sourness and spiciness/pepper. Flavour intensifies over time and coats the mouth.
Finish:
Medium length with oakiness and pepper. Flavour noticably rises up the sinuses without water.
Comment:
This is the first Springbank I've tried, though I'd always heard good things. The reputation is well deserved. You get a really good experience for the money. The strength is well judged and I like it neat personally. The peating is so subtle that you get it on the nose and hardly at all in the rest of the presentation. Cracking stuff.
