Lagavulin 16 Years

The classic Lagavulin is kilned with a high smoke content in the malt. The stills are pear-shaped, so that all flavors can be passed on to the condensers during distillation. The Single Malt then matures in Bourbon and Sherry casks to completion.

Comment: I am a newbie to scotch whisky but Lagavulin 16 immediately became by favorite smoked whisky. I cannot really speak of all those separate aromas or flavours yet, so to me the best thing about Lagavulin 16 is balance. It is complex, yet extremely balanced whisky. Nothing really overpowering, even smoke is not that intense to my taste. And that balance makes it much more enjoyable and intriguing to me comparing to something that has one dominating note, like smoke or sherry. Even my friends who are not into scotch always leave compliments to aromas of Lagavulin 16 like nothing else in my collection.
