Nosing:
Intense smoke (bonfire), some alcohol, a little tar, in the back red fruit, chocolate and a little sugary
Taste:
Intense, spicy and full, sweetness, a faint coffee note
Finish:
Long, It fades away carefully
Nosing:
Swirl the glass and dip your nose into the torrents of tarry ropes, creosote and linseed oil rising from deep within the vortex. As you succumb to its power, a collision of waxy dark chocolate, warm blackcurrants and muscovado sugar pulls you under its spell with a burst of plump cherries and earthy pine needles leaping from its depths.
Taste:
peppery and chewy, bombarding the tongue with its intense tastes and textures.
The first plunge brings forth chewy peppered steak soaked in pepper sauce with the tang of crispy seaweed. As you descend deeper, encounter black tarry espresso coffee that coats the palate with rich melted dark fruits and bitter almonds. As the taste soaks in deeper, star anise and hickory dry out the palate
Finish:
Long, deep and remaining powerful into the finish with black tarry coffee, chocolate coated cherries and hot pepper sauce, the lingering memories of your mysterious and daring journey into Corryvreckan.

Ardbeg - and the hype goes on! Named after a whirlpool north of Jura, Corryvreckan is a NAS core range expression with cracking 57.1% ABV. With its combination of candy floss, orange zest and delicate BBQ peat smoke, the nose starts out promising. On the palate, the dry and spicy arrival is entirely dominated by French oak, followed by a blast of briny peatiness. Unpleasantly bitter herbs and grapefruit creep in, culminating in a peppery-dry finish which is medium at best. Not a complete disaster, but a bit disappointing given the whisky's reputation.
