It is very revealing when this is constantly on sale in the Duty Free shops for less than the cost of the 18Y, which undoubtedly is the superior spirit.
The 21Y Royal Salute appears quite tired and weak, with lots of questionable, musty aromas mimicking age. Great Sherry edge, though, and certainly a sublimely smooth, sweet dram.
The regular 18Y offers quite a bit more character, complexity and enjoyment, making the 21Y a token gift in beautiful presentation.
