An excellent, old sherried Speysider - magnificent!
On the nose, intoxicating rich and bright fruits: nectarine, pineapple, peach, honey, orange peel, almost perfumey. Just below that, a distinct, grainy peatiness offers an enticing complexity.
On the medium-rich palate, initial sweetness is quickly balanced by drying (not bitter) oak tannin, light smokiness and a zesty, fresh spirit spice at the end. Long finish.
The nose seems older, the palate fresher than the labelled age, combined in the best possible way. My personal substitute for the ridiculously priced Macallan 18 and 25, and a great bargain at that.
