Laphroaig Quarter Cask - new Casing
The extra-maturation of Ex-Bourbon-matured Whisky in small Quarter Casks and the 48% ABV make this Laphroaig the perfect match of peat and oak and a popular alternative to the 10-year-old standard bottling. This is the new edition with a more modern design.

Taste: Oak, pepper, smoke, salt, costal funk, Again, like a spicier oaken version of the 10 year. Same classic great laphroaig taste, but with more punch. Very very tiny hints of sweetness vanilla, and citrus like, but the dominant tastes are laphroaig and oak.
Finish: medium long, very pleasant, more going on here than the10yr, I assume from the extra wood? Sweetness really comes out in the finish and develops into a fantastic aftertaste that seems much longer than the 10. the sweetness is still discrete enough to not pinpoint, so I will stick with vanilla and citrus.
Comment: Laphroaig is the single malt that brought me into scotch from years of tolerating bourbon... therefore, I am quite biased. This is a great dram if you find the standard ten year a bit boring, but is not quite as good, in my mind, as the triple wood. Classic laphroaig tastes, so again, if you do not like the 10 year, this may not be right for you. I love the coastal funk, hard to describe, but unlike anything else, laphroaig defines it for me.
