Laphroaig Select
Ian Hunter, the last of the founding family, visited the Bourbon distilleries in Kentucky around 70 years ago to learn their maturing techniques. Until that time, all barrels came from Europe, which resulted in a much sweeter Laphroaig. Hunter shipped a selection of ex-bourbon barrels to Scotland to test these barrels for his whiskey. This is the beginning of the Laphroaig as we know it.
The Select contains proportions of all known Laphroaig bottlings (10 years, PX Cask, Quarter Cask and Triple Wood). The combination of different barrels and bottlings creates a harmonious balance between peat smoke, vanilla, honey and slightly earthy aromas.
