Details about the Distillery

The Whisky

The New Zealand distillery produces a wide range of varieties, including Single Malt, Grain and Blended Whisky. The Single Malt is based on premium barley malt from the South Island of Canterbury in New Zealand. Slightly smoky Whisky is also produced.

The Gin

There is a Gin, the Victor Gin, which is very reduced and consists only of juniper, lemon, lemongrass, cardamom and coriander.

The Production

The New Zealand Whisky is made from regional ingredients. Natural spring water can be sourced directly near the distillery. The premium barley malt comes from New Zealand's South Island. The partly smoky Whisky is made from malt that has been dried over Manuka wood or South Island peat.

The Pot Stills

Distillation takes place in two pot stills, with the wash still having a capacity of 1,900 litres and the spirit still holding 1,000 litres.

There are also two pot stills for the production of Gin.

The Warehouse

The Whisky is stored in American ex-Bourbon casks. Most of the casks come from Kentucky. It is also stored in New Zealand wine casks and very small, different 20-litre casks.

The History

Thomson originally started out as an independent bottler in 2009, but then two friends, a Whisky enthusiast and a craftsman, founded the Thomson distillery, which gradually made a name for itself. It has already won several international awards.

The Visitor Centre

The different types of Whisky can be tasted after the tour.
