Comment: It is always pleasing when an affordable, standard bottling from a distillery exhibits depth and complexity. Tobermory's 10-year old expression is a great example of just such an experience.
This whisky's nose is a fine mix of fruit, distillery character (mild bitter/salt notes), and a savory edge. I do not get the heavy maritime influence that other reviews place at the fore. A slight hint of salt and a bit of umami (leather) are the only steps in that direction.
Tobermory 10-year old holds up well on the palate and through its finish. There is a tail-end coffee element in this, as well as other Tobermory offerings, that links a dessert-like sweetness and walnut bitterness together nicely. This is a quality whisky from begin to end, and all around.
