12 Years - 2009 Lord Of The Highlands - Tomatin (von whiskykeller.de)
Tomatin means "Hill of the Juniper" in the Gallic language: As a distilling site, illicit or otherwise, Tomatin goes back to the 15th Century when drovers would fill up their whisky flasks from a still alongside the Old Lord's House. It was built on the site in 1897.
This sherrycask whisky shows earthy aromas with rich wood tannin. A honey sweetness and an overt fruity depth with ripe bananas, stewed prunes and berry fruit. All is well structured and integrated.
A rich initial delivery with nice px sherry and up-front ripe fruit on the palate. Some
dark toffee notes add more richness with a good hit of old dark sherry.
The finish is long lingering and rich. This Single Malt is perfectly balanced
and hugely intense to the last.
