The nose is slightly smoky, its clear this is a light peat treatment. Sweetness, caramel and citrus peel. Some maritime saltiness.
Taste:

Full body, sweet arrival, smokiness comes through, but isn't overpowering. Oak spiciness comes through, along with a big hit of black pepper. Salty towards the end.
Finish:

Lingering spiciness and smoke, nice mix of sweet and salt
Comment:
I came across this as I'm doing a run on 12 year old malts I haven't had yet. This one is an absolute gem. I will say though that it needs a little time after opening the bottle for it to settle down. Initially I was getting a lot of leather and menthol on the nose and the palate was a bit disjointed, but after a few days this went away. It also benefits a great deal from a bit of water, not a lot, maybe a teaspoon or so. I like level of the peat in this whisky, enough to be noticeable but not enough to strip 5 layers off your tongue. The saltiness also is a pleasant surprise, I like the maritime notes, and they're quite pronounced in this release.
The quality for the price on this one is absolutely outstanding, definitely one I'd recommend trying.

Comment: Overall much more than i expected. not as peated as i had anticipated, but very well balanced, and with this rich oily mouthfeel that I have heard about, I have not experienced at this price point. This is tasty on a lot of levels, and is not a "bomb" in one way or the other, but balanced and complex. More on the fruity side, but you can sit with it for quite some time and pick out different notes.

Comment:
Kilkerran is very well balanced, waxy or very oily, complex dram. Cannot say anything bad about it.
Howevere I am not a fan of Campbeltown whiskies, as they do not offer any deep flavors. They are "thinking" drams, when you seat and look for flavors, and you can find a lot, but nothing is prominent, nothing is characteristic. But still this dram was the best among all Campbeltown drams I've tried. Level of peateness even for peat fans, are perfect balanced, nice and present.
