Once been the finest distillery of Scotland's Speyside, 'The' Glenlivet is still hanging in there. Its 12-year-old expression remains one of the best-selling Single Malts in the world and is a suitable alternative to Glenfiddich 12. Showing a surprising complexity, the nose is floral, fresh and delicate, emphasizing on pears and citrus fruits. On the palate, Glenlivet 12 is light and sweet, malty-fruity and easy to drink. Not a lot in the finish though: It's quick, mildly bitter and not very substantial. A classic and straightforward benchmark whisky without any edges or highlights.

It feels like a basic scotch, not much potential nor excitement entering into it, but a "scotch by any other name," if I had to admit it. Excitingly sweet on the nose, somewhat lackadaisical on the tongue, and the finish feels like a typical expectation. If I never find my preferred on shelf, I would see this as a go-to, however. With respect, it does it's job.
