Glenfiddich 15 Years Our Solera Fifteen
The 15-year-old Glenfiddich is the very first Single Malt of the distillery, which was created with the Solera process. Here Whiskys of different maturation types (Oloroso Sherry, Bourbon, new oak barrels) were married in a unique solera pass. There, the aromas from the individual barrels react with each other. It is therefore not a pure Sherry cask Whisky, as it was not stored in the Solera process, but only briefly married. Through this process it received fascinating aromas. In 2019, Glenfiddich's core range was reorganized: the V engraving on the bottle symbolizes the Valley of the Deer, the site of the Speyside distillery.

All tasting notes
Light fruitiness. Reminiscent of white wine. Pears and apple. Sweet character. Some darker fruit shows up after a while in the glass.
Taste:
Sweet/Balanced arrival, not as sugary as I was expecting. The flavour is strangely neutral, lots of oak influence. Sherry wood, and cinnamon show up mixed fruitiness throughout. Becomes dry towards the end with building tannins.
Finish:
Medium length. continued wood and spice from the palate.
Comment:
Glenfiddich has never been my favourite distillery. It is usually characterised as producing very beginner friendly malts which play heavily on the sweet fruits in a fairly cloying manner. This however has a bit of body to it. There's a lot of wood influence in this one which very much keeps the sweetness under control. The palate is pretty good, but the nose and finish are a bit week. I can't help but think that if they had bottled at 46% they could have had a real star on their hands here.
80/100
