All tasting notes

Mixed red fruit, sweet. dried fruits something lightly citrus like mandarin oranges.Vanilla sweetness.
Taste:

Intense and sweet arrival. The red wine character comes through immediately, more red fruit from the nose, particularly cranberry which is something I can't remember identifying in a flavour profile before. Lots of vanilla caramel, but it is kept well in check by the residual tannins from the wine. Oak spiciness kicks in over time and a gingery heat.
Finish:

Medium length. Residual spiciness, oak tannins come forward, but not bitter. Fruitiness changes from berries to general mixed fruit. Gingery heat remains.
Comment:
I was gifted a bottle of this by my father after he visited the distillery. I have to say, it really is a very well put together release. Given that it is not bottled with an age statement I wasn't expecting the well rounded quality on show. It definitely needs a good bit of water to show at its best, I was probably adding a full tablespoon to a dram. The red wine cask here definitely shows through, but not in the acidic/astringent way it often does in my experience, I'm very impressed with the way the recharring seems to have affected these casks, the result is excellent. If I had been tasting this blind, I'm not sure I wouldn't have mistaken this for a 12-14 year old malt. It is also priced at a good point for such a potent bottling strength, very impressed.
