Nosing: Sherry Dried Fruit Zitrus Sweet
Immediate sherry nose. Fruity and citrussy, almost lime notes. Honey and butter toffee sweetness.

Taste: Dried Fruit Raisin Lemon Peel Oak
Sweet arrival, amost immediately dries out a bit. Dried fruit, particularly raisin. Lemon peel develops towards the end. Toffee throughout. Some oak builds up towards the end keeping the sweetness under control.

Finish: Oak Spices Nuts
Long, very long. Lots of residual sweetness, spicy oakiness and some nuttiness.

Comment:
I've yet to come across a Glenfarclas that I truly dislike. This is however a bit of a strange beast compared to their other standard releases. It is a great deal heavier on the oak than the rest of the range, but not unpleasantly so. You definitely have to treat it differently though. If you just pour and go with this one it comes across as awkward and disjointed. However, if you give it half a teaspoon of water and leave it in the glass for 10 minutes it completely transforms. The nose is truly excellent, and while I think the oak levels are a little too high overall, it still represents really good value given the price for a 1 litre release. Not as good as the 15 year old in my opinion, but definitely worth picking up over some of the other things you see in duty free these days.
