Tomatin Legacy
This single malt has been matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and virgin oak casks. This gives it an almost candy-like sweetness.

29. Apr 2017
Nosing:
Very fruity with lots of pineapple, some background vanilla and quite sweet. There's a dark, almost savoury caramel note to it.
Taste:
Intense flavour with bags of oak. Citrus and tropical fruit shows through here and there but its definitely dominated by the wood. The sweetness is balanced and doesn't veer off towards sweet or sour. There's a nice background spiciness to it.
Finish:
Medium to long and quite malty. There's a touch of black pepper in there.
Comment:
I have to say, for an entry level malt this is really impressive stuff. The strength is pretty much perfectly judged at 43%. There's no great rawness to it which you sometimes get with young spirit, that virgin oak is doing a good job with the fast maturation. All said, its intense and interesting which is pretty much all you can ask of any whisky, and at the asking price its well worth a try.
