Excellent value, great heirloom technique and distinctive style.
Nikka's Coffey Grain may simply be described as quaffable. Nose and palate are dominated by the same vanillin and talcum powder quality found in Nikka's Yoichi, making it very enticing from the first sip. Lightly "green" grain qualities and juicier fruit aromas (plums) round out the nose and translate almost linearly into the palate sensation. Round, mellow, oily, structured by finely powdered tannin that is almost like a fine cocoa dusting. Finishes on the big vanilla note again into the slightly drying finish.
The general observation that ice emphasizes the perceived texture on the palate holds especially true for this dram.
