What a nice surprise of a "world" Single Malt. (Same batch as in video.)
First off: Mr. Luening again tortures the English tongue by not knowing the difference between "bald" (hairless, as he thinks this Whisky is named) and its real name - "bold" - meaning full, intense, strong, brash, brazen...
This bottle will need continued perusal to fully comprehend, but initial impressions are great - resembles Bourbon-matured Highland Park with Bowmore thrown in for peaty measure.
Peat smoke is balanced on the nose, with campfire, hickory-smoked bacon and earthier, mineral tones before the ashy, American oak vanilla (like Nikka) comes in. Supporting fruit is quite rich - dried pineapple, figs, passionfruit, honey, quite tropical.
Palate starts big with oiliness, slight sweetness, balanced and vibrant alcohol, then the smoke kicks in and makes for a burnt pineapple in the campfire. Balance distinctly Bowmore (15?) again.
Good stuff, great value, perfect strength - water upsets it.
