Balvenie 14 Years Caribbean Cask
Malt Master David Stewart filled American oak casks with special rum. When the casks fully gained the aroma of rum, he switched the content with the 14 year old Balvenie. Scottish Whisky meets Caribbean soulfulness. Rich and sweet, with a fruity character.

Comment: one of my favorites but rather sweet, not for everyone
From a rum finished whisky I expected to get more raisin, but the rum character is definitely there in the form of banana and coconut and an underlying smell of light brown sugar. Some other fruitiness, but not citric.
Taste:
Mouth coating and intense, much more so than I would expect for 43%. The fruitiness of the nose is buried by the caramel and vanilla oakiness. Not overly sweet though. Definite rum influence.
Finish:
Long and intense, the oak really comes through and the caramel flavour gets darker but stops just shy of bitter. The spiciness transitions into pepperiness.
Comment:
This one definitely didn't disappoint. The flavour lost a bit of the fruitiness that I would have liked to see, but it is super approachable. They definitely got the strength right on this one in my opinion, no water required here. A bargain at the current price.
