Meadowside Blending

History

Meadowside Blending was founded in 2011 by Donald Hart and his son Andrew and is seated in Glasgow.

Donald Hart is a whisky veteran, having worked in the industry since 1964. Already at the age of 18 he founded the company Hart Brothers with his brother Iain. They worked as whisky brokers, i.e. they bought and sold casks and served as contact persons to the different distilleries. A little later the Hart Brothers also introduced their own blend. In the 70s the business was expanded: A bottling plant and a warehouse were bought, and the company also started to act as wholesaler and distributor of whisky.

After Iain resigned from the company in 1975, the third brother Alistair was introduced into the family business. Together with Alistair, Donald began to bottle selected single casks, making Hart Brothers an independent bottler. In 2007 the company was sold. After this era the Meadowside Blending Company was founded.

Donald's son Andrew got involved in the family business early on. At the end of the 90s he lived in Sweden for five years and thus got to know the Scandinavian markets among others. Andrew is involved in all areas of "The Maltman" and is a brand ambassador for the bottling company. Like his father he is a "Keeper of the Quaich".

Range

The whiskies from the "The Maltman" series are always unchillfiltered and naturally coloured. Each edition is a single cask bottling. Predominantly rare and old malts are bottled. Up to 2014, the Harts created about 60 single cask bottlings, among them also well-known distilleries such as Bruichladdich or Arran.

Meadowside Blending also produces their own blend called The Royal Thistle. The thistle is a national symbol for the Scots.
