Oban 14 is a respectable Highland Single Malt that features a mineral and slightly salty character. The coastal proximity of the distillery definitely comes through in the whisky. On the nose, there are citrus fruits, toffee and hints of tobacco. The arrival is spicy and salty, developing into bitter sweetness of wood tannins. Besides, I experienced a surprising flash of menthol on the palate. Unfortunately, the finish is rather poor, being dominated by oak and unpleasant dryness. Considering its prize and vague character, I am somewhat underwhelmed by this malt whisky.
