Balblair 15 Years
Balblair is located in the small town of Edderton in the Scottish Highlands. The distillery takes its time for the production of Single Malts, which mature in the traditional 'dunnage' warehouses with clay grounds. This 15 year old matured in ex-Bourbon casks and then in first-fill Spanish oak casks.

All tasting notes
Caramel and orange zest, vanilla. Some savoury herbal notes. Not the most aromatic.
Taste:
Sweet arrival. Malt lead, with mixed citrus peel and melon. Some sherry, but not overpowering.
Finish:
Long, with lots of wood coming forward. Orange oil flavour remains. Becomes dry.
Comment:
This has an interesting balance of bourbon vs sherry cask maturation. The nose isn't particularly aromatic and is a little disappointing overall. On the palate, it is really solid, though it is surprisingly alcohol burny despite being only 46%. Nothing wrong with the flavour though. The finish is good and long and very fitting with the rest of the presentation. That orange oil is there throughout, but doesn't get bitter. The only gripe I have with the whole thing is the price, which is a bit high for what is on show.
