Nosing:
Sweet spiciness. Resins. Red fruit. Marzipan. Reminds me of a fruit pastry. There's also a certain leathery note going on as well. Very interesting, if not overly intense.
Taste:
Intense sweet arrival. Immediate hit of mandarin oranges. Spiciness builds over time and sweetness dies back.
Finish:
Medium length with residual orange marmalade and spice flavours, some dry nuttiness develops, but still mostly fruit led.
Comment:
This is a fantastic release. It has a lot of the charm of many sherry matured finishes, but doesn't suffer from the over the top cask influence that a lot of them show. It's a bit more expensive, but well worth it, and compared to other 18 year olds, not excessively priced. The bottling presentation is good, it'll take a little water, but it doesn't need much. If i had to make a criticism, I'd say the finish could be longer, but really, it doesn't let the side down. I'll definitely be keeping some of this around.
