that the release comprises 3000 bottles and made up of three sherry finished packages:
"Combining Jura 19 year old seasoned for 5 years in an 11 year old Palomino Fino sherry cask, Jura 14 year old seasoned for 4 years in a 15 year old Oloroso Amoroso sherry cask, and Jura 15 year old seasoned for 3 years in a 30 year old Oloroso Apostoles sherry cask."
I contacted Jura who very kindly confirmed that the mentioned age of each package includes the seasoning period, which means this expression could technically be labelled 14 years old.
Interestingly Jura also stated that the number of bottles are actually around 12,000 and not 3,000 as reported by Steve. @horst_s or @ben could you please amend this bottle number in the database?
I will have a few more tasting of this before making a rating. but for now, I can say that the nose is deeply fragrant of preserved/stewed dark fruits with no sharp notes from 51% abv, but on the palate and the finish it is very very spicy like hot chilli or hot ginger (considering that I am from Singapore and we relish eating chilis).
would this be indicative of all those years in old sherry casks which presumably are from european oak?
Hi Steve! Oops now what have I done? anyway thanks for the info in your very interesting blog. I asked them whether the quoted age for example of the 19 years old seasoned for 5 years in palomino fino Cask, would be inclusive of the 5 years seasoning or not.
They replied in the affirmative and did not dispute the information regarding the make up. They only stated that they produced "around 12,000 bottles" instead of 3,000. did they also asked you to remove the information on the make up?
@steveprentice I wish stating the makeup of blends and NAS whisky was standard. For example, Laphroaig Lore is well over 100 dollars, and I would prefer to know what makes it up if I were to spend money like that.
you'd want to support Compass Box's now-dormant transparency campaign then.
seriously, I am enjoying my Tastival 16 much more know what is in it, and contemplating how those components might be contributing to the layers of aroma and flavours I am perceiving, and looking for those I thought that should be there.

It was said in Steve Prentice's blog review of the Jura Tastival 2016
https://www.somersetwhisky.com/review-jura-tastival-2016/
that the release comprises 3000 bottles and made up of three sherry finished packages:
@hwchoy Argh ha! That's where/how an email from Whyte and Mackay came to be sent to me today asking me to remove/edit my post. :-) Not sure where I got the 3000 bottles figure from (I must have got it from somewhere at the time, I don't just make this stuff up), but I've altered the post to reflect 12,000 as advised by them... as for the cask make up, the info is in the public domain, an online shop published the information, so I'm not keen on removing it (and haven't). I guess their concern is that because the bottle is NAS that the info on age makeup could potentially cause issues with SWA or some such.
@steveprentice
Hi Steve! Oops now what have I done? anyway thanks for the info in your very interesting blog. I asked them whether the quoted age for example of the 19 years old seasoned for 5 years in palomino fino Cask, would be inclusive of the 5 years seasoning or not.
