A very special edition and probably the last of its kind

It is one of the oldest Linkwood Single Malts that ever have been bottled: For the Private Edition Linkwood Distillery 1956 from Gordon & MacPhail the independent bottler has got its last 1950s cask from this distillery out of its stock. And it probably is the last cask worldwide that had left from these years the company writes in its press release.

Matured in a Sherry cask for six decades

On 3rd January 1956 this first fill Sherry Hogshead with the number 20 had been filled in Linkwood Distillery and was matured for six decades in the warehouses of the family owned company Gordon & MacPhail. George Urquart had an eye on the casks since his grandfather John required one month after he layed down the cask. Now the whisky was bottled at cask strength of 49.6 % ABV.

Dark mahagony color, full-bodied aroma

The single malt with deep brown mahagony color presents a rich, warm and full-bodied aroma that reminds of blueberries, fruit cake and dark chocolate according to Gordon & MacPhail. Only 53 of those premium decanters with the 60 years old Linkwood Single Malt were bottled and are released in an extravagant packaging with an award winning design. Those who want to enjoy the pleasure of possessing one of the decanters have to spend a nice sum: £20.000 are mentioned as the recommended retail price.

A variety of Linkwood Single Malts available

If the Linkwood from 1956 doesn’t fit in your pricing scheme you might alternatively chose one of the various releases of this single malt that are on market. There is for example a Linkwood 25 yo that was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as well. Or what about a 37 yo Linkwood from 1978, part of the Special Releases series? There are younger bottlings of single malt from this distillery as well, just have a look here in our data base.
