GlenAllachie Wine Cask Series starts with three editions

Matured in Bourbon barrels, finished in Grattamacco, Sauternes or Rioja barrique casks

A new series of GlenAllachie Single Malt Whisky was created by whisky legend Billy Walker. The editions of the Wine Cask Series were finished in barrique wine casks for almost two years following a basic maturation in ex-Bourbon barrels. Different wines from Italy, France and Spain were previously stored in those casks, so that the whiskies of this series each got a very specific aromatic character.

The series starts with three editions, finished in either Grattamacco, Sauternes or Rioja barrique casks. All editions of the GlenAllachie Wine Cask Series are limited to 6,000 bottles each. They are neither chill-filtered nor coloured and are all presented in an alcoholic strength of 48% ABV.

Master Distiller Billy Walker said: “We are delighted to be launching our Wine Cask Series with a trio of really interesting expressions. Cask-finishing is perhaps the most exciting part of wood management because it allows an extra layer of complexity to be added to the whisky, whilst ensuring that the distillery character is not overpowered by the influence of the Oak.

Selecting and working with these wine barriques was a labour of love, and I’m delighted with the variety we have achieved in these three bottlings: the Grattamacco delivers a nutty, stone fruit character, the Sauternes reveals an elegant grapefruit and elderflower tone, and the Rioja overflows with red berry sophistication.”
