Petra Milde |

The new single malt will be called „1770 Glasgow Single Malt Scotch Whisky“

When Glasgow Distillery started production in 2014 it was the first whisky distillery Glasgow in since 1902. Soon the first malt of the distillery will be released: It will be named 1770 and the first Batch will be limited to 5.000 bottles. It was matured in first fill Bourbon casks, got a finish in virgin oak casks and was bottled with 46% ABV. But you won’t find it in spirit shops because it won’t be on trade as it is usual for whisky releases: If you want to get any chance to get your hands on one of the 0.5 l bottles at a price of 100 pounds you should register on the website of the Glasgow Distillery Company until June 3rd.

Homage for the former zenith of whisky production in Glasgow

The single malt of the Glasgow Distillery is named after the former distillery that had been founded in Dundashill at 1770. From 1700 to 1900 Glasgow was one of Europe’s leading towns according to the latest press release of the Glasgow Distillery Company. More than 40 distilleries were situated here and exported worldwide. For a while there already has been a 1770 Club that offers the opportunity to buy an own cask with new spirit from the distillery. The whisky will be matured for five years.

Already other products on sale

Since Glasgow Distillery Company was founded by Liam Hughes, Mike Hayward and Ian McDougall in 2012, they not only waited for their own whisky to be matured: meanwhile the company released three editions of a Speyside whisky that are 26, 27 and 28 years old under the label Prometheus. In addition the Makar Gin and G52 Vodkar are produced at Glasgow. By the way Glasgow Distillery is not the only whisky distillery in the Scottish metropole that is in public focus in these days: Only a few hundred meters away the Clydeside Distillery has started production recently.
