A special edition of the heavily peated whisky to celebrate Fèis Ìle

Fans of the Big Peat can look forward to something new: the Big Peat Smokehouse Edition is the first bottling of the powerfully peated Islay blended malt from Douglas Laing & Co. to be finished in red wine casks. It was released by the renowned family business on the occasion of this year's Fèis Ìle, the whisky festival on the island of Islay, and is (of course only while stocks of the limited edition last) also available in the Whisky.de online shop.

Due to the finishing maturation in red wine casks, the heavily peated blended malt presents itself with "notes of ‘dark fruits’, ‘dried cherries’, ‘smoked meats’ and ‘red currant jus’", as the press release promises. The Big Peat Smokehouse Edition was bottled in natural colour and without chill filtration at 48% vol. "The ultimate dram to pair alongside steak and food from the grill," they call it and so Douglas Laing has decided to work with the Peatzeria in Bowmore again for the presentation on Islay and to offer three tastings there.

Emma Reid, brand manager of Big Peat, said: “Big Peat fans have the chance to try something very different in The Smokehouse Edition. This is Big Peat as you have never seen him before, finished predominantly in Red Wine Casks, giving the already robust and smoky spirit a layer of added complexity and character, ideal for enjoying with a celebratory steak. Fèis Ìle is the perfect time to try The Smokehouse Edition, Fèis go-ers appreciate all that is Islay and the island is abuzz with Whisky fans ready to enjoy themselves, come rain or shine.”
