The Whisky
The whiskies of the German Ziegler distillery are very sweet with a lot of sherry and wine influences.
The main production of the Ziegler distillery is usually fruit spirits.
The Production
The distillery is in the heart of Franconia. The clima here is a lot different to Scottland. The Franconians compare their clima to the the mediterranean. The summer are a lot hotter, but the winter are also colder than with the sea clima of Scotland. This means the maturation is a lot more on the oak and this gives the whisky a lot more spiciness even with younger whiskies.
The Pot stills
Unfortunately the pot stills are not specially designed for the whisky production. The fruit stills are very small and constringed just above the tubular base. The missing hight of the still makes it very hard to separate the sharp aromas that are in the worth and the low wines.
The Malting
The Ziegler distillery focuses only on non peated malt.
The Warehouse
The warehouse of the Ziegler distillery has a cellar to store their spirits. They vary a lot with the casks to get a lot of different tastes in their whisky.
History
The distillery is over 150 years old and in private hand. So it a nice small family business that still believes in the hand craft business.
The Visitor Center
The distillery is open for visitors and you can by all their whisky and other spirits at their local shop.
