V-Sinne Schwarzwald Brennerei

The V-Sinne distillery has its origins in the picturesque Black Forest, more precisely in Emmendingen near Freiburg. Johann Buchmüller and Viktor Svetlov, the founders of the distillery, had a clear vision: they wanted to create a Gin that not only captures the flavour of the Black Forest, but also appeals to all five senses.

Details about the Distillery

The Gin

The distillery uses 31 botanicals for its V-Sinne Schwarzwald Dry Gin. V-Sinne uses Italian juniper, the hard shells of which are broken open before maceration in order to better access the oils. Other botanicals include rose petals, rosehip peel, spruce needles, angelica root, pepper and cardamom. Fresh ingredients such as cucumber, ginger, orange, lime, lemon, wild blueberries and raspberries also find their way into the Black Forest Gin.

V-Sinne Raspberry Gin is based on the distillery's Dry Gin. This - and not neutral alcohol - is used for maceration. The berries are used for the raspberry flavour both during maceration and in the spirit basket.

Star Trek fans can savour the licensed V-Sinne Star Trek Stardust Gin, which was launched in 2023. The base here is a Dry Gin that has been reduced to 40% vol. and colouring and glitter have been added. In the glass with tonic, the blue liquid changes colour from turquoise to green. The glitter particles shimmer like the galaxy. Since 2024, the distillery has also been releasing the V-Sinne Star Trek Aldebaran Spirit, which consists of 95% 4-year-old Malt Whisky and 5% water and is bottled at an alcohol strength of 38% vol. It is a tribute to the equally green Aldebaran Whiskey from the Star Trek series, which Data describes with the words: ‘It is... it is... it is green.’

The ‘Glüh’ Gins V-Sinne Glüh Gin & Berry and V-Sinne Glüh Gin & Orange are also part of the V-Sinne range. Diluted with 1:1 apple or passion fruit juice and warmed up, they are a special alternative to mulled wine.

The Production

V-Sinne uses neutral alcohol in the production of its spirits, which can optimally absorb the flavours of the botanicals. Depending on the recipe approach, alcohol with a content of 40 to 70 % vol. is used. The maceration time also varies, ranging from 48 hours to a week.

A special feature of the distillery is the pressing of certain macerates. This process allows the intense flavour nuances to be fully extracted and integrated into the spirits. However, the exact details of this process remain V-Sinne's well-kept secret.

In addition to its own product line, V-Sinne also offers the option of contract manufacturing. V-Sinne is the ideal partner for anyone who has always dreamed of having their own Gin, Rum or Whisky. As an experienced private label producer from the Black Forest, the company offers an all-round service: from recipe development and the distilling process to label design and bottling, customers receive everything from a single source.

The Pot Stills

It all began at V-Sinne in 2016 with a small mini still that could hold just half a litre. After many experiments and the testing of various recipes, not only did the experience grow, but so did the equipment: a 50-litre still marked the next step towards professionalism.

Today, the distillery is equipped with two restored column stills, which were prepared with great dedication. Originally wood-fuelled, the stills have been converted to modern electric heating. This conversion enables more precise temperature control and slower distillation, which contributes to a finer flavour.

A so-called spirit basket with fresh ingredients can be placed in the centre of the stills. This allows the alcohol vapours to rise and give the spirit additional flavours. Each spirit is produced using the small-batch method, with only 200 to 240 bottles being produced per distillation process.

The History

Inspired by a TV report on homemade gin, Johann Buchmüller and Viktor Svetlov began their journey into the world of Gin in 2016 - from their first experiments on a 500ml mini still to their first product, V-Sinne Schwarzwald Dry Gin, which was launched on the market in 2018. With ingredients directly from the region and a large portion of passion, a Gin was created that takes connoisseurs on a unique sensory journey. Since then, not only has the product range grown continuously, but the V-Sinne team has also expanded to 10 employees.

The Visitor Centre

The V-Sinne distillery offers Gin Tastings on site, where you can take a look behind the scenes of the Black Forest distillery and taste the various Gin creations. It is also possible to book a private online Gin Tasting.
