Details about the Distillery
In 2008, the distillery was built by Mark Tayburn. The distillery is very much attached to tradition and the aim is to use only raw materials from Lewis.
In 2010, Abhainn Dearg's first Whisky, a limited edition 3-year-old Spirit of Lewis, was bottled.
Abhainn Dearg is a very small distillery and some of the means of production appear rather improvised - the outward impression makes this distillery very different from the usual appearance of a typical Scottish distillery.
