Details about the Distillery

The Whisky

The raw spirit of the Whisky is designed to be fruity which will also be reflected in the final product later. The makers aim at Aberargie Whiskys for a slightly smoky and relatively fruity note.

At Aberargie, a lot of Emphasis is placed on producing high-quality Whisky. Therefore the Whisky is stored only in fresh sherry and Bourbon barrels. The Whisky will be bottled by Morrison & MacKay.

The Production

The Aberargie distillery started operations only in the fall of 2017 and currently comes to an annual production volume of 750,000 liters. The distillery has two pot stills: a wash still (capacity: 15,000 liters) and a spirit still (capacity: 10,000 liters).

The water for the Whisky production comes from the spring, which was drilled specifically for the distillery. It is almost 100 meters deep and provides sufficient water for the entire production process.

The Pot Stills

The two pot stills are onion-shaped with reflux bowls that allow reflux of the evaporating alcohol vapor, helping to improve the separation of alcohol and water. The Lyne Arm runs slightly downward after the bend to yield a voluminous Whisky.

This is where tradition meets modern engineering: the traditional process of making high-quality Whisky, executed with state-of-the-art equipment and technology.

The Malting

At Aberargie, local barley is regarded important. On the approximately 120-hectare site all barley for the production of the Whisky is grown in-house. Malting is done at the English malt house Simpsons. Aberargie also plans to produce strongly smoky Whisky in limited editions to bring variety into the range.

The Warehouse

Aberargie wanted to produce high quality Whisky since day one. So it is aged exclusively in fresh Sherry and Bourbon casks. The casks are stored on the premises of the distillery.

History

The Morrison family has been in the Whisky business since 1951. Since 2005 the family has run the Scottish Liqueur Centre together with the Mackay family. It was renamed Morrison & Mackay in 2014. In 2014, the Morrisons formed the Perth Distilling Company independently of Morrison & Mackay and drew up a plan to build the Aberargie distillery. In 2016 construction began on the Aberargie distillery, 30km from the Morrison & Mackay bottling plant.
