Traditional production, craft presentation and outstanding quality - it's hard not to like Springbank whiskies. Complex, dense and ever-changing, the nose is truly a chameleon. Gentle peatiness, crisp apples and bitter herbs harmonize with sweet malt, old leather and mineral-earthy notes. Tasting strong, aromatic and spirit-driven (few rough edges), this young Campbeltown malt combines mild fruitiness, well-integrated smoke and wee hints of salt with a robust, substantial and chocolaty finish. It's simply one of the best 10-year-old Single Malts from Scotland!

Nosing: Lemon Sweet Fruit Peat Smoke Malt Salt Oak
Very interesting nose, just a touch of peat smoke and lemon oil, maybe a bit of pineapple. Maltiness and some marine saltiness like I would normally associate with Old Pulteney. Some light oakiness in the background.

Taste: Lemon Sweet Pepper Spices
Initially sweet. Lemon citrus flavour, transitions into slight sourness and spiciness/pepper. Flavour intensifies over time and coats the mouth.

Finish: Pepper Spices Oak
Medium length with oakiness and pepper. Flavour noticably rises up the sinuses without water.

Comment:
This is the first Springbank I've tried, though I'd always heard good things. The reputation is well deserved. You get a really good experience for the money. The strength is well judged and I like it neat personally. The peating is so subtle that you get it on the nose and hardly at all in the rest of the presentation. Cracking stuff.

Nosing: sweatnes, nuts, milk or even white chocolate, dry fruits, a bit of smoke

Taste: A bit spicy, a bit salty, a bit bietter, a bit sweet, a bit smoky

Finish: Fading quickly

Comment:
It is a whisky which has everything "a bit" in it mixed together. Maybe someone can like it for it's complexity, but for me it is kind of boring and deffinitely not pleasant dram. Maybe can be better in much older version. But for now I am done with Springbank destilery alas, cause they have nice family business.

Nosing: Strawberry Apple Vanilla Lemon Peel Barley sugar

Taste: Hay Oak Floral Honey

Finish: Vanilla Oak Walnut (including some of the soapy characteristic of walnuts)

Comment: A great deal of sweetness on the nose. I do not detect the peat smoke referenced by other reviews. The transition from its fruit-laden nose, to an earthy taste & finish is smooth.

The quality of whisky from Springbank is not in question. This offering, however, is not a stand out from purely a sensory perspective.

Nosing: Fruit Chocolate Honey Leather Salt there is some peat smoke but it is not so fierce as the Islay malts. After a couple nosings and getting past the "smokiness" (again, not comparable with typical Islay) these are the notes I found.

Taste: Peat Smoke up front, then it goes a different route...very long lasting. Zitrus then Pepper throughout then Maritime Notes hard to describe, definitely funky. Malt all the way through.

Finish: Malt Chili Dried Fruit Lemon Orange Herbs very distinct and long lasting. unlike anything else.

Comment: Just a very unique whisky. Great for those who are tepid about peated malts. Don't let that scare you away from this, it is not on the same level as Ardbeg or those type of whiskys.
