All tasting notes
Upfront, the nose has peat smoke and very savoury notes a sort of charred smell like you get from barbecued chicken. Not the medicinal smoke of Isla. Sweetness comes through in the form of candied nuts.
Taste:
Intense arrival and balanced sweetness throughout. Charred meat and mixed dried fruits. The smokiness and pepper intensifies as its held in the mouth.
Finish:
Long, sweet and smoky, the peat character of the smoke returns for the finish.
Comment:
I got hold of a sample of this in a tasting set. I was really pleasantly surprised. Its a really BIG whisky with intense flavour throughout. It definitely has a bit of that sherry influence, but by no means is it drowned by the sherry cask, nor by the relatively high strength of the peating. The nose really improves over time and more layers come through as it rests. Very impressed with this stuff and hope to see bottles of this become more widely available.
