Comment:
Is this whisky overrated and overhyped? Definitely not! Lagavulin 16 is an outstanding Single Malt from Islay and a cornerstone of Scotch whisky culture. Intense peat smoke with hints of iodine and seaweed dominates the nose, combining with a soft and yet substantial sherry cask sweetness. On the palate, Lagavulin is full-bodied, peppery and deliciously sweet with dried fruits and an overwhelming blast of dry peatiness. The finish is prolonged, warming and spicy. An excellent whisky that would be even better with 46% ABV, no chill filtering and natural color.

Nosing:
Immediately smoky. Not as intense as I was expecting, but welcome for it. Sweetness and vanilla. I smell walnuts in this though not many others seem to, and fennel or liquorice.
Taste:
Full and intense, sweet and smoky, oily mouth coating texture. some spiciness in the back of the mouth. There is a bit of fruitiness there, but you really have to go looking for it.
Finish:
Long and smoky, black pepper.
Comment:
I went into this not knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised, the smoke is prevalent but not overpowering and the overall deep sweetness balances it out. The smoke is less medicinal and more like lapsang souchong tea (which I usually hate) but in this it definitely suits it. Good stuff.

Nosing: First thing is smoke but then very nice swetness. I love the smell.
Taste: Sweet, peppery, not complex, notes of sherry, notes of wet wood and skin.
Finish:
Smoky, feeling like after smoking cigars.
Comment: I like this whisky but I don't get why it's so overrate and overprice since last three months. Taste is really good but not complex. As for 43% and long maturation alcohol is to present in mouth and to sharp. My personal biggest minus is for after/after taste which is this unpleasant feeling after smoking ciggarettes which is one of the reason I don't smoke and will never do.
To sum up: good whisky, I like it but aftertaste will not let me buy it again too soon. Diffinitely can be a very good dram for peat lovers. Comparing to Ardbeg it is totally different.

Comment: It's good we can give another review here because I feel I have to bcs I do not agree with me any more :D I was not experienced drinker at that time and didn't know some whiskies need to breath for a bit. So Lagavulin does. Lagavulin became one of my best friends and I really don't think it is even a bit overpriced or overrated. It is just delicious.
